The Cover-Up

Wallpaper...wallcovering...who knew that it could change our lives in so many ways! Some people love it and have wallpaper throughout their home. Others fear the sight of it and run! I think those people have had the "opportunity" to remove wallpaper that was not installed correctly and therefore have vowed to never use it again. With all that being said, wallcoverings of various types are very current in design. There are removable wallcoverings, grasscloths, vinyls, handmade silk panels, and the list goes on....

I've pulled a few classics to prove that if you make the right wallcovering selection the first time, you can truly love it forever and never have to remove it!

So...I'm going to start with my personal favorite! I love (and I know I'm not the only one) the famous Scalamandre Zebras in Masai Red. I don't remember the actual first time I saw this amazing wallpaper, but it was love at first sight and I spent years waiting for the opportunity to use it. The time finally came and my husband agreed to let me spend THAT much on wallpaper...then, a year after install, I had to sell the house and let someone else love my zebras. Even my kids were sad to leave the zebra bathroom behind.

This paper was made famous because of a little restaurant in NYC

named Gino's that opened in the 1940's.

The Zebras pattern was reintroduced and now has many color ways that

designers all over the world still use today.

Ok, enough with my zebras...I could spend an entire post about this one wallpaper.

Next is the ever famous Brazillaince by Dorothy Draper.

She gave the Greenbrier Hotel & Resort a facelift in the 1940's and blew the socks off everyone with her palm leaf pattern and bold color scheme.

This wallpaper has also been a classic that many designers are still using today.

Just look at this gorgeous space by Olive Interiors.

Another top wallpaper company that just about gives me heart palpitations is de Gournay.

The following images are direct from their website and they have many, many more to share.

De Gournay creates a masterpiece for their clients. Each panel is custom made and handpainted for the specific room. You can only dream of this type of wallcovering! And I say wallcovering, because it's not only paper that they use....they often use silks. Take a look at their dreamy masterpieces and you will see for your self.

The Plum Blossom pattern, shown below, is my favorite de Gournay pattern and have dreamed of it

appearing in my dining room...one day.....

Now, I have one more to share for today...Thibaut Designs. They have been making fabulous fabric and wallpaper for decades and are much more affordable.

This is another great paper by Thibaut called Tanzania...

So, with all that said, please do not fear the wonderful world of wallpaper! It just might be the best cover-up you'll ever use.
