Brass

Brass...wait! Don't cringe...it's not your mom's brass from the 90's! Not the highly polished, super shiny stuff that everyone has been working so hard to remove from their homes for the last 10-20 years. The brass that is current today is more of an antique finish or not lacquered. It has so much more warmth and depth than it's 90's cousin. You can find it everywhere...lighting, hardware, furniture, handbags and clothing. You can purchase new items that have the old patina or...go on a search and seizure mission at the antique and consignment shops. Gold finishes have come in and out with all the other trends, but the antique brass is a classic in my book.

Let's take a look at some fabulous ways to use brass!

This classic look is not only popping up in the kitchen, but in the bathroom. Some of these rooms are reminiscent of the old hotel bathrooms with the brass wash stands and marble.

The next photo shows how it really is ok to mix metals in one room!

These are just a few ways that brass is on trend and also proves it is a classic metallic finish. I could spend an entire day showing all the ways designers are using it today. I think I will save lighting and furniture for another post. If you are working on an update or in the midst of a remodel, you just might consider brass as an option to jazz up your space.
