One of my favorite trends right now, well for several years, is the use of bistro chairs in the home. They have adorned the streets of Paris for a very long time...all thanks to a gentleman from Germany named Michael Thonet who started experimenting with bending wood in the 1800's. His pieces were discovered at a couple trade fairs and the popularity began.

Today, these chairs continue to be a tradition with small cafés and bistros around the world! They have evolved into many shapes and finishes and are now coming into our homes. Let's take a look at these beloved chairs, so simple, yet so classic.

Michael Thonet and his famous

The x-back is my favorite bentwood style chair. Many companies now make a version of this style.

I have a set of 6 in my dining room.

I love the combination of the built-in banquette and bistro chairs in this beautiful kitchen.

Another bistro chair that I am currently longing for...is the woven version.

They can be made of rattan, plastic and even rilsan.

These chairs have also crossed over into the interiors world.

My kitchen has the perfect spot for 3 of these stools....but they have yet to grace us with their presence.
